How to measure your cat for a collar or necklet
To measure your cat for a collar or necklet, use a soft tape where the piece will sit, record the measurement and follow the size chart for that product. Check whether the chart asks for a neck measurement or a finished collar length before adding any allowance. If your cat is between Amulcat sizes, ask us for help before ordering.
It is tempting to start with a breed, an age or the size of a collar your cat already owns. Those details can help, but the measurement is the better starting point. Two cats of the same breed may need different fits, and size names vary between brands.
Choose a calm moment
Have a soft measuring tape ready and wait until your cat is settled. Let them investigate the tape if they want to. You do not need to finish in one attempt.
If they move away, resist or become distressed, put the tape aside. An unfinished measurement is more useful than a hurried guess that becomes an order.
Measure where the piece will sit
Bring the tape around the intended position without pulling it tight or flattening the coat. Read the number, then release the tape. Write the measurement down with its unit so there is no confusion between centimetres and inches.
For a long-haired cat, note the coat length as well. Avoid treating the outside of a fluffy coat as a precise guide to the fit underneath it. If you cannot get a clear measurement, send Amulcat Support the details you have and explain what made it difficult.
Read the chart before adjusting the number
A size chart may describe the cat’s neck measurement or the size of the finished accessory. These are not automatically interchangeable. Follow the instructions attached to the product and do not add extra space twice.
For Amulcat, use the chart on the Necklet or Necklet Set product page. Small adjustments within a size do not make every size suitable for every cat. If the measurement lies between the offered sizes, contact us rather than automatically ordering the larger one.
Check the actual fit after it arrives
The tape helps you choose; the fitted piece still needs checking. RSPCA Australia describes a fit that leaves space for one large finger or two small fingers between a collar and the cat’s hair, with ongoing checks of fit and condition. Read its cat collar guidance for the broader recommendations.
This general guidance does not certify a particular product. With an Amulcat Necklet, begin with a short supervised session. Remove it if your cat shows discomfort or the fit seems wrong, and ask for help before trying again.
Send the useful details together
For Amulcat sizing help, email your neck measurement, approximate body weight and coat length to support@amulcat.com. Explain how you measured. We may request a side photograph by reply email.
You can find the product-specific next steps in the Amulcat sizing and fit support. Once the fit is clear, choose a Necklet or a Necklet Set with one charm.
